General information about entrance requirements.
To be eligible for admission to postgraduate studies the applicant is required to meet the following three main criteria:
Formal entrance requirements
To be eligible applicants need a minimum of 240 (HECs) including a minimum of 120 (HECs) in psychology at the undergraduate level and 30 (HECs) in psychology at the advanced level. The Postgraduate Committee may approve exceptions from this general requirement if an equivalent knowledge can be demonstrated and acquired by other means.
Specific entry requirements
In order to be accepted for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) education in Psychology, the following requirements must be fulfilled:-
• Completed courses involving at least 90 Further education points in Psychology at graduate level as well as
• At least 60 Further education points in Psychology at Advanced level, of which courses involving at least 15 Further education points involving Philosophy of Science Methods as well as a scientific paper/thesis involving at least 15 Further education points, or Accumulated merits and knowledge accruing from other types of education that are equivalent to the above.
Applicants are instructed to present a research plan to the Postgraduate Committee. The plan will be evaluated and ranked in comparison with those of others applicants.
Admission and selection
The Postgraduate Committee provides recommendations for admission. The formal decision is made by the Head of the Department. The basic criterion applied for eligible PhD candidates is the evaluation of the applicant’s capacity to meet requirements for postgraduate studies demonstrated by the research plan and previous courses and theses. Applicants are recommended to establish contact well in advance with a potential supervisor to discuss the research plan.
Only applications for which there is a sufficient correspondence between the applicant’s research focus and the specific competency among available supervisors will be admitted in order to secure a qualified supervison.
