About Sven Carlsson


Born 1935. Associated to the Department of Psychology, University of Gothenburg, since 1960. FD 1977, Assoc. Professor 1978, Licensed Psychologist 1979. Professor 1996, emeritus since 2000. Honorary Doctor of Odontology at the Sahlgrenska Academy 2009.


In the past, responsible for courses within the areas of Health Psychology, Psychosomatics, Medical Psychology, Research Methodology and Psychometrics. Supervisor of numerous MA dissertations, and some 20 doctoral theses in Psychology, Odontology and Medicine.

Research interests

My main research interest falls within Health Psychology, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine. Specific examples: Phobic dental fear; Psychological and social aspects of longstanding pain; Psychological treatment in primary health care settings.

Current research

Phobic and moderate dental fear: etiology, diagnosis and treatment. Psychological aspects of long-standing pain.
