Research Interests

My main research interests lie within the framework of developmental- and neuropsychology and are captured in the following general themes and questions: (1) Fatherhood. How does father involvement develop over time? What are the neural mechanisms that can describe and shed light on the premises of paternal caregiving and its neural plasticity? (2) Empathy. What neural mechanisms underlie empathic behavior and similar phenomena such as compassion, sympathy and altruism? To what extent can such capabilities be effectively acquired by practice and what trait and/or state neurological changes do such practice result in?

Ongoing research project

My dissertation is conducted within the project Father Involvement from early Childhood to Adulthood (FIECA) and is part of Gothenburg Longitudinal study of Development (GoLD). By drawing on interview- and questionnaire-data spanning over four decades, I analyze father involvement over time. The empirical analysis is linked to societal structural changes that have occurred since the study began. In addition, models of the neural mechanisms of paternal caregiving are used to contextualize the analysis.
